Meteorites, known as "extraterrestrial rocks", are natural glass materials. In ancient times, meteorites were often regarded as sacred objects. For example, the ancient Romans used meteorites as messengers of gods. They built bell towers where meteorites fell to worship them. Hungarians carried the meteorite into the church and chained it up to prevent the "gift of God" from flying back into the sky. There is also a meteorite in the Islamic holy land of Mecca, which is regarded as a "holy stone".

Now scientific research has proved that glass meteorite is the product of melting liquid cooling during the landing process of some kind of meteorite. The mother stone of glass meteorite is light green and black, so the landing of glass meteorite is carried out together with the mother stone.

Glass meteorite is a natural glass material. Because it looks like obsidian, it is also called obsidian. But their composition and structure are different. Most of the glass meteorites are spherical, slender, dumbbell-shaped, droplet-shaped, button-shaped and irregular massive. It is scattered in groups in continental or submarine sediments.

Glass meteorites are translucent vitreous bodies with weak magnetic properties. Their colours are dark green, green, light green, brown, brown, dark brown and rare cinnabar. The specific gravity is about 2.6 to 3.0. Glass meteorite is formed at high altitude, high temperature, high pressure and high speed, so it has obvious formation characteristics: high purity and impurity-free inside, full of dense small bubbles, melting shell outside, there are rhyoid on the melting shell, and sometimes there are large gas marks on the outside and under the melting shell.

Meteorites are precious because they are the oldest rocks. It plays an important role in the study of outer space. It can effectively provide the early historical data and information of the planets outside the Earth. Meteorites are highly valued by all countries in the world as important scientific research materials.
