郎世宁（Giuseppe Castiglione，1688.7.19—1766.7.16），意大利人，原名朱塞佩·伽斯底里奥内，生于意大利米兰，清康熙帝五十四年（1715）作为天主教耶稣会的修道士来中国传教，随即入宫进入如意馆，为清代宫廷十大画家之一，曾参加圆明园西洋楼的设计工作，历经康、雍、乾三朝，在中国从事绘画50多年，并参加了圆明园西洋楼的设计工作，极大地影响了康熙之后的清代宫廷绘画和审美趣味。 主要作品有《十骏犬图》《百骏图》《乾隆大阅图》《瑞谷图》《花鸟图》《百子图》等。
Giuseppe Castiglione (1688.7.19-1766.7.16), an Italian, was born in Milan, Italy. Emperor Kangxi came to China in the 54th year of the Qing Dynasty (1715) to preach as a monk of the Catholic Jesuit Church. He immediately entered the Ruyi Museum, one of the ten court painters of the Qing Dynasty. He had participated in the design of the Western Tower of the Yuanmingyuan and experienced Kang Dynasty. In the three dynasties of Yong and Qian, he had been engaged in painting for more than 50 years in China and participated in the design of the Western Tower in Yuanmingyuan, which greatly influenced the court painting and aesthetic interest of the Qing Dynasty after Kangxi. The main works are "Ten Jun Dogs Picture", "Bai Jun Picture", "Qianlong Dayu Picture", "Ruigu Picture", "Flowers and Birds Picture" and "Baizi Picture".
从郎世宁一生的业绩来看，他的主要贡献在于大胆探索西画中用的新路，熔中西画法为一炉，创造了一种前所未有的新画法、新格体，堪称郎世宁新体画。郎世宁来到中国后仔细研习了中国画的绘画技巧，他画的中国画具有坚实的写实功力，流畅地道的墨线，一丝不苟的层层晕染，外加无法效仿的颜色运用，中西合璧，焕然一新。以其独创的新画体博得了皇帝的赏识和信任。从现存的郎世宁亲笔画迹来看，它既有欧洲油画如实反映现实的艺术概括，又有中国传统绘画之笔墨趣味，确有较高的艺术感染力。

郎世宁字画在2006年春季拍卖会，上拍的256件中国古代书画，总成交8746.54万元，成交率为79%；2007春拍，上拍的199件中国古代书画总成交额为3489.09万元，成交率为54%；在今年的春拍中，推出的150件中国古代书画成交了10923.22万元，其成交率也高达74%；北京保利在今年的春拍中，推出的115件中国古代书画总成交额为4927.89万元，成交率为63%，这些成交率与去年基本持平。从这些成交结果来看，中国古代书画市场各大板块的整体表现呈现出相对稳定的态势，而且整个中国古代书画的平均价位还有一定的攀升。投资人除追捧名家作品外，对存世量比较稀少的古代书画精品也表现出了足够的重视。
