大卫·萨利（David Salle）1952年生于美国俄克拉马州诺曼，1972年获瓦伦西亚加州艺术学院硕士学位。1975年首次在洛杉矶办个人画展，是20世纪80年代以来最重要的美国新表现主义画家之一。
大卫萨利的具象作品使用大胆的搬用手法，把互不相关的因素融合在一起。这些被聚集在一起的形象来自于各种大众传播媒介，在他的双幅画布构成的作品中形成具有对立性的主题和宏大的气势。他显然已经从传统现代主义绝对而狭隘的逻辑中解放了出来，并明确的表现了一个令人酸楚的支离破碎的世纪末时代，所使用的手法令人惊叹折服。
