两个单词都有“补偿、赔偿”的意思，但是区别很大：

compensate指对别人付出的劳动或者损失给予相应的报酬或弥补；

indemnify指为他人的行为所造成的损失进行赔偿或实质恢复原状的行为。

1 compensate

a. Employees under the older Civil Service Retirement System are compensated for unused sick leave, and as a result have far more unused sick leave when they retire.

b. We compensate workers for injuries suffered at their work.

a. 属于原先《公务员退休制度》规定范畴的员工会就其未享用的病假方面得到补偿，因此，他们在退休时会享有更多的未由其享有的病假。

b. 我们对工人在工作中受伤给予补偿。

2 indemnify

The Parties shall defend, indemnify and agree to hold the other party harmless from and against any and all loss or damage either may sustain as a result of any breach of any of the representations and warranties in accordance with Article X, any breach of this Agreement by either Party, negligence and any third-party claims asserted against or in connection with the UF6.

双方应保护、赔偿并同意使另一方免受因违反第十条规定的任何陈述和保证、任何一方违反本协议、疏忽以及针对UF6或与该国相关的任何第三方索赔而可能遭受的任何和所有损失或损害。
