When I tapped and trawled some apps for grocery shopping last week, I was caught by surprise that spinach, a green leafy vegetable typically found on most dining tables, was retailing at about 32 yuan ($5) per kilogram. Unbelievable as it may sound, spinach costs more than pork!
Recent extreme weather in some regions, COVID-19 resurgence across many provinces and the energy crunch, are believed to have sent vegetable prices soaring in China.
Although pork prices have been falling, which somewhat softening the impact of costlier vegetables, concerns over the rising risk of inflation have been growing. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, vegetable prices rose nationwide in October by 16 percent month-on-month. The good news is, prices have came down a bit in the past few days.
The authorities is trying to calm the public by vowing to guarantee supplies of meat, eggs and milk this year, said an official with the ministry, as production of meat and milk is expected to reach a high to meet the need during the New Year and Spring Festival holidays.
China’s factory-gate inflation hit a record high in September, in contrast to the country's mild consumer inflation. The distortion of high producer prices and falling consumer prices could put policymakers in a difficult situation as high factory inflation could constrain the government from using strong stimulus policies to spur growth and boost domestic demand. Some economists also saw China's mild consumer inflation as a sign of a slow recovery of domestic demand, which needs additional policy support.
菠菜比猪肉贵？是真的。
相信很多人最近一周打开日常手机买菜APP时，都会吓掉下巴：大多数餐桌上常见的绿叶蔬菜普遍涨价，不少蔬菜每斤单价突破了“10元”。身价最高的菠菜，每斤甚至高达16-17元，“跑赢”了猪肉价格。
尽管猪肉价格一直在下跌，从而在一定程度上缓解了蔬菜价格上涨的影响，但对通胀风险上升的担忧一直在加剧。进入10月，农业农村部监测的28种蔬菜批发均价环比上涨16.7%。农业农村部表示，蔬菜价格普遍上涨的原因包括灾害性天气导致蔬菜上市量有所减少，农资价格上涨增加了生产成本，运输流通成本明显增加，以及一些北方设施蔬菜主产省电力供应不足影响了蔬菜集约化育苗和工厂化生产。
最近北方地区遭遇极端寒冷天气，电力供应紧张，疫情波及多省，能源价格上涨等多个因素共同作用，导致蔬菜价格进入“飙升模式”。一些经济学家担心，大宗商品价格高企将推高生产成本，促使工厂最终将更高的投入成本转嫁给消费者。PPI和CPI剪刀差的扩大，可能会限制政府使用强有力的刺激政策来刺激增长和扩大内需。消费通胀温和也被不少经济学家视为内需复苏缓慢的迹象。
所幸近日不少地区绿叶菜价格又开始“接地气”了。农业部表示，全国总体菜价涨幅已经收窄，不少地区菠菜、生菜等绿叶菜价格开始明显回落。今冬肉类供应也无需担忧，农业部预计今年的肉类和奶类产量有可能创历史新高，禽蛋产量保持稳定，保障元旦、春节期间市场供应有良好的生产基础。

An increasing number of enterprises from Hong Kong have swarmed the 4th China International Import Expo (CIIE) this year. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council sent a delegation of about 60 enterprises to attend the CIIE, an increase of 27 percent from last year, to showcase diversified high-quality products and services from the city.
香港贸易发展局已连续四年组织香港企业参展进博会，持续向内地引入多元化的香港优质食品及服务。据了解，今年香港贸发局牵头组织了共57家香港企业参展，同比增加27%，而参展港企总数较去年持平。

The Chinese mainland reported 65 new local cases yesterday, including 20 from Liaoning, 18 from Henan and 8 from Hebei.

China's total imports and exports expanded 22.2 percent year on year to 31.67 trillion yuan in the first 10 months of 2021, which marked an increase of 23.4 percent from the pre-pandemic level in 2019, data of the General Administration of Customs showed Sunday. However, trades in October recorded a 5.6 percent drop from September.
海关总署11月7日公布的数据显示，今年前10个月，我国进出口总值31.67万亿元人民币，同比增长22.2%，比2019年同期增长23.4%。数据显示，10月份，我国进出口总值3.34万亿元，同比增长17.8%，环比下降5.6%。
The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) on Saturday issued a notice banning e-commerce platforms from unfair practices during the ongoing Double 11 shopping festival, including raising prices of items before putting them on sales, promotion by exclusion, and restricting competition.
中国国家市场监管总局发文规范“双十一”促销经营活动，要求提高促销行为的公开化和透明度，禁止采取“先提价后打折”、虚构原价、不履行价格承诺等违法方式开展促销，严格禁止不正当竞争行为，不得通过排除、限制竞争及妨碍、破坏其他经营者合法提供的网络产品或者服务等开展促销。

China's securities regulator has approved the IPO registration of three companies on the country's NASDAQ-style ChiNext board. MH Robot & Automation, Jiangsu Tonglin Electric and Mingyue Optical Lens will be listed on the board.
证监会同意3家公司创业板IPO注册。证监会发布消息称，近日按法定程序同意迈赫机器人自动化股份有限公司、江苏通灵电器股份有限公司、明月镜片股份有限公司创业板首次公开发行股票注册。

Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with environmental protection and lithium battery sectors leading the gains, while stocks related to vaccines recorded big losses, after Pfizer and Merck both announced having developed experimental antiviral pills. The newly-listed A50ETF was on fire today with the combined turnover of more than 10 billion yuan, setting a new ETF debut record. The Shanghai Composite went up 0.2 percent, and the Shenzhen Component closed 0.32 percent higher. The Hang Seng Index lost 0.43 percent.
