China's foreign trade of goods jumped 10.1 percent year on year to 27.3 trillion yuan during the first eight months of the year, official data showed Wednesday.

From January to August, exports rose 14.2 percent year on year to 15.48 trillion yuan, while imports increased 5.2 percent from a year ago to 11.82 trillion yuan, according to the General Administration of Customs(GAC).

In August, China's exports increased 11.8 percent year-on-year to 2.12 trillion yuan, while imports rose 4.6 percent to 1.59 trillion yuan, bucking market concerns of a slowdown due to cooling global consumer demand, high inflation, and growing geopolitical uncertainty.

The country's trade surplus expanded 40.4 percent in August, maintaining a relatively high level, with foreign trade totalling 3.71 trillion yuan, an increase of 8.6 percent on a yearly basis.

ASEAN continues to be China's largest trading partner, accounting for 15 percent of China's total foreign trade between January and August. China's trade with its top three trading partners - ASEAN, the EU, and the US - grew 14.2 percent, 9.5 percent, and 10.1 percent year-on-year, respectively.

Trade with Belt and Road Initative (BRI) partners jumped 20.2 percent year-on-year over the period. In August alone, China's imports and exports with BRI countries and regions increased 23.8 percent year-on-year, contributing to 6.9 percentage points of the country's total foreign trade growth, according to the GAC.

Over the period, China's foreign trade with the 14 Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) economies was up 7.5 percent.

据海关总署7日消息，据海关统计，今年前8个月，我国进出口总值27.3万亿元人民币，比去年同期（下同）增长10.1%。其中，出口15.48万亿元，增长14.2%；进口11.82万亿元，增长5.2%；贸易顺差3.66万亿元，扩大58.2%。

8月份，我国进出口总值3.71万亿元，增长8.6%。其中，出口2.12万亿元，增长11.8%；进口1.59万亿元，增长4.6%；贸易顺差5359.1亿元，扩大40.4%。

前8个月，我国对东盟、欧盟和美国等主要贸易伙伴进出口增长。对东盟、欧盟、美国、韩国进出口同比分别增长14%、9.5%、10.1%和7.8%。东盟继续为我国第一大贸易伙伴，占我国外贸总值的15%。对“一带一路”沿线国家进出口同比增长20.2%，8月当月，我国对“一带一路”沿线国家进出口同比增长23.8%，拉动整体进出口增长6.9个百分点。与RCEP其他14个成员国同比增长7.5%。

The death toll from a magnitude 6.8 earthquake that hit Luding county in Sichuan province on Monday had risen by Tuesday evening to 74. China has allocated 50 million yuan from its central budget for disaster relief to Sichuan, said the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday.

German chemical giant BASF SE has announced that the first plants of its Verbund site in the city of Zhanjiang, south China's Guangdong Province, started production as scheduled on Tuesday. It covers an area of around 9 square km and is expected to gain a total investment of up to 10 billion euros by 2030, its largest investment to date. The first plants will provide an annual output of 60,000 tons of engineering plastic compounds, raising BASF's total production in the Asia-Pacific region to 420,000 tons annually.

The top economic planner will also guide localities to further release their frozen pork reserves.

China's top 500 enterprises reported rapid growth in revenue and profit in 2021, said an industrial ranking report published by the China Enterprise Confederation and the China Enterprise Directors Association on Tuesday. The largest 500 companies have generated combined revenues of 102.48 trillion yuan in 2021, a rise of 14.08 percent from last year and exceeding the 100 trillion yuan mark for the first time. Net profits of those companies totaled 4.46 trillion yuan last year, up 9.63 percent from one year earlier.

China is the world's largest market for industrial robots, with its production reaching about 366,000 units in 2021, a 10-fold increase from 2015, an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said Tuesday. The industrial robot application covers 60 industrial categories of the national economy. In 2021, the density of manufacturing robots exceeded 300 units per 10,000 people, about 13 times more than in 2012.

China has served as the largest shipbuilder in the world for the past 12 consecutive years in terms of market share in the industry, the MIIT said on Tuesday, adding that the country has continued to grow its influence in the global industrial and supply chain.

PetroChina announced late Tuesday that its controlling shareholder China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) will transfer a 1 percent stake in the company to Sinopec to help strengthen collaboration between the two. The deal involves about 1.8 billion A shares, meaning CNPC's proportion of PetroChina shares will drop to 80.3 percent.

CNPC said on Wednesday it had signed an agreement with Russia's Gazprom related to the Power of Siberia gas pipeline. The agreement was a supplementary agreement to the "Sino-Russian Eastern Route Natural Gas Purchase and Sale Agreement”. Gazprom said on Tuesday it will start switching payments for gas supplies to China to yuan and roubles instead of dollars.

Shares in SOHO China traded up 11 percent in Hong Kong after Pan Shiyi, founder of the Chinese premium office buildings developer, has resigned as chairman, together with his wife Pan Zhangxin’s resignation of the firm’s CEO, according to a filing to the bourse on Wednesday. Xu Jin and Qian Ting have been appointed as executive directors of the board and co-CEOs of the company.

Huawei Technologies unveiled its much-anticipated Mate 50 series smartphones on Tuesday that support satellite communication, becoming the first smartphone maker to roll out such a feature in the consumer market. Priced from 4,999 yuan, the handsets are 4G-enabled but powered by its self-developed operating system HarmonyOS 3. Huawei also released the AITO M5 EV, the first pure electric vehicle model from the AITO brand.

GAC Aion lined up strategic investors in an ownership restructuring to clear the way for a public share sale, the electric vehicle subsidiary of Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. Ltd. (GAC) said Tuesday. The company put 15 percent of its equity on the Guangdong United Assets and Equity Exchange on August 26, seeking as many as 70 investors.

广汽埃安股份制改革完成：9月6日，广汽埃安新能源汽车股份有限公司创立大会暨第一次股东大会顺利召开，决议广汽埃安新能源汽车股份有限公司正式成立，并引入战略协同董事。8月26日，广汽埃安增资项目在广州联合产权交易所正式挂牌。交易所公告显示，本次融资将稀释约15%的股份，引入不超过70家战略投资者。

Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday with the tech-heavy ChiNext Index leading the rise. By the close, the benchmark Shanghai Composite edged up 0.09 percent and the Shenzhen Component gained 0.42 percent. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng lost 0.83 percent as the TECH Index fell 1.3 percent.

周三A股三大指数集体收涨。截至收盘，上证指数涨0.09%，深证成指涨0.42%，创业板指涨1.19%。板块方面，半导体、工业金属、TOPcon电池、工业母机领涨两市，游戏、传媒板块跌幅居前。港股恒生指数收跌0.83%，恒生科技指数收跌1.3%。
