昊美术馆很荣幸地宣布,将于9月10日在昊美术馆三楼展厅二推出马丁·韦默尔个展“焕色”。
此次在昊美术馆举办的展览回顾了艺术家马丁·韦默尔迄今为止在中国的创作旅程,也展现了韦默尔独有的创作语言。通过他的画作,我们踏上了一段视觉探索之旅,鲜艳的色调、动感的质地和迷人的构图交织在一起,唤起人们潜藏内心的不同情绪。从有形到抽象,韦默尔的艺术超越了传统的界限,让观众参与到艺术家的视角与自己的主观体验的对话当中。

展览主题 “焕色” 即代表了对韦默尔创作过程的回顾,也强调了着色这一概念。色彩与马丁·韦默尔的作品产生了强烈的共振,并始终贯穿于他的创作之中。
色彩,一直以来都是现代绘画中最为宏大的主题之一。通过马丁·韦默尔的作品,我们不禁要问:色彩是什么?色彩之间如何相互反应?约瑟夫-阿尔伯斯(Josef Albers)的色彩理论对韦默尔的影响尤为深远。其重要观点之一是,色彩是相对的,与周围的颜色成比例变化。
韦默尔的所有作品(抽象或具象)都具有强烈的推动力。除了绘画主题之外,色彩还起到强化作用,将作品提升到另一个层次。色彩因此成为主题,这也可以从他的作品顺序中看出。

从马丁·韦默尔的绘画表现风格、题材和标题中,我们可以读到他对中国日常生活的印象。他的作品采用了大气、明朗的风格。流动的浮雕画法,传达出活力、力量和动感。韦默尔涂抹、再涂抹的绘画过程清晰可见:刷子、刮刀、管子。通过使用纯色与大面积并排涂抹的方式,艺术家在浓缩了其创作主题的同时,赋予了其作品强烈的可塑性。

在马丁-韦默尔的作品中,图案的平庸性被美学地夸大,从形式上、姿态上和技术上成为一种关于抽象与绘画的论述。他的绘画兴趣在于抽象和非正式,而他的许多主题则来自具象。同时,他还创造了完全抽象的配色方案和图案,其中不仅使用了浮雕式颜料,还使用丝带和木条作为色彩和表面结构的手段。
韦默尔用将色彩和纹理的排列组合作为创作手法表达绘画,以浮雕形式来呈现作品,看似模仿捕捉绘画主题,实际上却脱离了绘画主题。

马丁·韦默尔 Martin Wehmer
马丁·韦默尔生于1966年,在1992年至2008年作为自由艺术家在德国弗莱堡生活和工作。在2001年至2003年间,他与德国画家本·胡布希(Ben Hübsch,1963)和马丁·卡斯帕(Martin Kasper,1962)共同组成了 GOLDJUNGS 艺术团体(Golden Boys)。
2008年,在一次艺术家驻留期间,他决定将生活重心转移到中国。次年,即2009年,他作为北京 798 双年展(北京大山子艺术区的首个双年展)的策展人而声名鹊起,引起了国际关注。
2009年,他作为客座讲师在中央美术学院教授绘画,2012年在天津美术学院任教。2010年、2011年和2015年,他代表柏林艺术大学作为中德艺术研究院的一部分在杭州中国美术学院任教,并为中国年轻艺术家在柏林的交流年做准备。马丁·韦默尔对许多年轻的中国艺术家产生了深远的影响,从根本上塑造了他们日后的艺术生涯。他的学生包括广东画家梁曼琪(生于1986年)和浙江画家姜琤(生于1985年),两人目前都被国际画廊代理。

魏龙德 Ronald Kiwitt
魏龙德是东亚艺术史学家和汉学家。他曾在柏林和北京学习。在威尼斯佩吉-古根海姆收藏馆cPeggy Guggenheim Collection)和中国美术馆(NAMoC)实习期间,他开始接触国际博物馆和画廊。在中国生活和工作的几年中,他于2010年至2012年担任北京亚历山大-奥克斯画廊(Alexander Ochs Gallery)馆长,这使他第一次直接了解到蓬勃发展的当代艺术领域。在上海昊美术馆,他于2012-2014年担任艺术顾问和策展人。
他与尹在甲一起,主要参与为昊美术馆馆藏收购大量博伊斯藏品的工作,该藏品于2013年以 "博伊斯在中国 "为题在北京首次展出。在随后的几年里,魏龙德为佳士得拍卖行工作,并参与建立了上海的新代表处。2017年,魏龙德回到柏林,在柏林自由大学东亚艺术史系教授有关中国当代艺术的课程。自2020年起,魏龙德担任德国纽伦堡-埃尔兰根孔子学院艺术主管,负责学院的艺术画廊(Kunstraum)。该艺术馆旨在为国际当代艺术领域的年轻艺术家提供一个学术和艺术交流的平台以及一个艺术家驻地。魏龙德每年策划4次展览,为纽伦堡/巴伐利亚地区带来国际艺术界的新阵地。

HOW Art Museum is pleased to announce that the solo exhibition, Re-Colored, by Martin Wehmer will be on view in space two on 3F of the museum from Sep 10, 2023.
The exhibition in the HOW Art Museum offers a retrospective impression of Martin Wehmer's creative phase in China to date that represents the entirety of Wehmer's creative palette. Through his paintings, we embark on a journey of visual exploration, where vibrant hues, dynamic textures, and captivating compositions converge to evoke a range of emotions and sensations. From the tangible to the abstract, Wehmer's art transcends conventional boundaries, engaging the viewer in a dialogue between the artist's vision and their own subjective experience.

The title Re-Colored refers to a retrospective view on Wehmer’s creative process. It can also be understood as coloring. Colorfulness is very strongly resonant in Wehmer's work and runs through all the years of his creativity.
Color was always a very strong theme in modern painting. Through Martin Wehmer’s works the question arises: What is color and how do the colors react to each other? Josef Albers was particularly influential for his work on color theory. One of its important points is that color is relative and changes in proportion to the colors surrounding it.

All of Wehmer’s works (abstract or figurative) carry a strong impetus. Aside from the subject of the painting, the colorfulness works as a reinforcement and transforms the work onto another level. The color thus becomes the theme, which can also be seen in the sequence of his works.
Impressions of his everyday life can be read in Martin Wehmer's painterly style of expression, his subjects and titles. His works are painted very impasto with a generous style and convey energy, power and dynamism. Wehmer paints over, applies paint and removes it again - the painting process is clearly visible: brush, spatula, tube. Pure color is used and placed side by side over a wide area. In this way he creates a strong plasticity in the depiction while at the same time reducing and condensing the motif.

With Martin Wehmer, the banality of the motif is aesthetically exaggerated and becomes a painterly discourse on abstraction and dealing with painting: formally, gesturally and technically. His painterly interest lies in the abstract and informal, while many of his motifs come from the context of figuration. At the same time, completely abstract color schemes and patterns were created, in which he used not only impasto and relief-like paint but also ribbons and wooden strips as color and surface structuring means.
He shows painting as an arrangement of impasto forms, colors and textures that seem to mimetically capture a pictorial subject, but actually detach it from the subject.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Martin Wehmer
Martin Wehmer (b. 1966) lived and worked as a freelance artist from 1992 – 2008 in Freiburg, Germany. From 2001 – 2003 he was a member of the GOLDJUNGS artist group (Golden Boys) together with the German painters Ben Hübsch (* 1963) and Martin Kasper (* 1962).
During an artist residency in 2008 he decided to shift his life to China. In the following year, 2009, he achieved notoriety as the curator of the Beijing 798 Biennial, the first biennial in Beijing's Dashanzi art district, which attracted international attention.
As a guest lecturer he taught painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (中央美术学院) in 2009, followed by a teaching position at the Art Academy Tianjin (天津美术学院) in 2012. In 2010, 2011 and 2015 he taught on behalf of the UdK Berlin as part of the Chinese-German Art Academy (中德艺术研究院) at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou (中国美术学院) and prepared young Chinese artists for their exchange year in Berlin. Martin Wehmer had a strong influence on many young Chinese artists, whose later careers he fundamentally shaped. His students included the Cantonese painter Liang Manqi 梁曼琪 (born 1986) and the painter Jiang Cheng 姜琤 (born 1985) from Zhejiang, both of whom are currently represented by international galleries.
Wehmer's work has recently been shown at Anja Knoess Gallery (Cologne), Albert Baumgarten Gallery (Freiburg), Leo Gallery (Shanghai) and Contemporary by Angela Li (Hong Kong).

ABOUT THE CURATOR
Ronald Kiwitt
Ronald Kiwitt is an art historian of East Asian art and a sinologist. He studied in Berlin and Beijing. Internships at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and the National Art Museum of China (NAMoC) in Beijing served as an introduction to networking in the international museum and gallery landscape. During his stay of several years in China, he worked from 2010 to 2012 as director of the Alexander Ochs Gallery in Beijing, which gave him his first direct insight into the flourishing contemporary art scene. At the HOW Art museum in Shanghai, he acted as an artistic advisor and curator (2012-2014). Together with Yun Chaegab he was largely involved in the acquisition of a large Beuys collection for the HOW Art Museum collection, which was presented for the first time in Beijing in 2013 under the title "Beuys in China". In the years that followed, Kiwitt worked for the auction house Christie's and was involved in establishing the new representative office in Shanghai. In 2017, Kiwitt returned to Berlin, where he taught courses on the contemporary art scene in China at the Department of East Asian Art History at Free University Berlin. Since 2020, Kiwitt has been working as head of the art department at the Confucius Institute in Nuremberg-Erlangen where he is responsible for the institute’s art gallery (Kunstraum). The art gallery aims to offer young positions of international contemporary art a platform for academic and artistic exchange and an artist residency. With annually 4 curated exhibitions, Ronald Kiwitt brings new positions of the international art scene to the Nuremberg/ Bavarian region.
