《康熙字典》是清代康熙皇帝在康熙四十九年(1710年)三月下达上谕,诏令陈延敬等人以明代的《字汇》和《正字通》为蓝本编纂的,第一部以皇帝命名、第一次用「典」命名的字书,成书于康熙五十五年(1716年),历时6年,是古代字书的集大成者,其影响之大唯《说文解字》可相提并论,以至后来的众多字词典都仿效以「典」命名字书。
《康熙字典》堪称有清代学术史之巨著,中国辞书之权威。书自康熙五十五年问世以来,经多次翻刻、影印、排印出版。清代武英殿曾于康熙五十五年,和道光年间两次版印,此为清代光绪年间宫廷太史连纸复印,版刻清晰,行格疏朗,刷印精良,旧装一套6本,完整不缺。清内府刻本能保存如此之好,非常不易。
