此币铸于光绪三十一年（1905）初，为纪念慈禧六十寿辰而铸。张炯伯在《广东省造银币》一文中写道：“惟本品因未纪年，殊难遽断，然观其图案，谐作福寿，环绕双龙，幕无英文，意含颂祝，大异常制。由此以推，成为纪念币之一种，专铸以祝慈禧太后六旬万寿者也。

据了解，近几年广东省造光绪元宝双龙“寿”字币一度成为收藏界追捧的宠儿。香饽饽的广东省造光绪元宝双龙“寿”字币收藏价值极高，但是广东省造光绪元宝双龙“寿”字币存世量极为稀少，动辄上百万的天价。

广东省造光绪元宝双龙寿字币库平重壹两直径3.9cm重约30g，该金币正面珠圈外上端镌刻“广东省造”四字，下端镌刻楷书“库平重壹两”五字，左右两侧各镌有一蝙蝠图案，珠圈内铸有“光绪元宝”四字。金币背面珠圈外铸双龙戏珠图案，珠圈内铸一圆形“寿”字。
