China's economy continued to recover in July, but industrial output and retail sales slowed down due to COVID-19 resurgence and natural disasters, official data showed on Monday. The country's industrial production grew by 6.4 percent in July from a year earlier, slowing from the rise of 8.3 percent in June, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Retail sales of consumer goods rose by 8.5 percent year on year last month, down from the 12.1-percent increase in June. Fixed-asset investment went up 10.3 percent year on year, reaching over 30,000 billion yuan in the first seven months of this year.
8月16日，国家统计局公布7月中国经济数据。7月份，社会消费品零售总额34925亿元，同比增长8.5%；7月份，全国规模以上工业增加值同比增长6.4%；1-7月份，全国固定资产投资（不含农户）302533亿元，同比增长10.3%。发言人付凌晖在当天的新闻发布会上表示，7月份，受外部不确定因素增加和国内汛情、疫情影响，部分主要指标增速有所回落，但是从累计来看，主要宏观指标仍处在合理区间，经济总体延续了恢复态势。
The NBS’s data also showed that China’s housing market slightly eased in July, with home price increases slowing down in 70 major cities. New home prices in four first-tier cities rose 0.4 percent month on month in July, 0.3 percent slower than the previous month. Second and third-tier cities saw a month-on-month increase of 0.4 and 0.2 percent respectively.
7月份，一线城市新建商品住宅销售价格环比上涨0.4%，涨幅比上月回落0.3个百分点。二、三线城市新建商品住宅销售价格环比分别上涨0.4%和0.2%。

The Chinese mainland reported 13 new local cases yesterday, 6 from Jiangsu province, 6 from Henan province and 1 from Hunan province. Nanjing and Zhengzhou city, hard hit by the recent outbreak, announced yesterday that the autumn semester will be postponed. Both cities are to provide online classes for students, and schools could be reopened if no new cases are reported for two or three weeks.
全国昨日新增13例确诊病例（江苏6例，河南6例，湖南1例）。江苏南京、河南郑州两城市8月15日相继召开发布会，宣布学校暂缓开学。郑州将按照“停课不停教、停课不停学”要求，在延期返校期间实施线上报到、线上教学，原则上在连续14天无新增阳性病例的情况下，拟安排5个批次返校。南京则需在全市全域均转为低风险地区满21天后，分期、分批组织学生开学返校。
China’s Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu said last Friday that China has all along taken a scientific attitude as it engages in global cooperation on science-based origin-tracing and has invited WHO experts to China twice for origin-tracing research, stressing that politicization must be firmly rejected. On the same day, the WHO called for all governments to depoliticize the situation and cooperate to accelerate the origins studies.

Shenzhen’s administration will support the e-commerce sellers affected by Amazon’s move to block online Chinese stores for their abuse of comments. Over 10,000 online Chinese stores have been shut down since May, causing cross-border e-commerce firms a 100 billion yuan loss. Earlier this month, Shenzhen proposed to help large cross-border e-commerce firms expanding their foreign market through self-operated platforms and the construction of overseas warehouses. Successful projects will be rewarded with a 2 million yuan subsidy.

Shares in Fujian Yongfu Power Engineering crashed by the exchange-imposed limit of 20 percent to close at 77.5 yuan today, after the Chinese energy storage solutions provider said battery giant CATL plans to sell up to 3 percent equity.
8月16日，储能概念股永福股份一字跌停，封单金额近7亿元，报77.52元。永福股份8月13日公告，宁德时代将减持永福股份不超过546.31万股，占比不超过3%股份。
In the first ten-day period of August, 11 key automobile companies produced only 312,000 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 34 percent, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. Passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle production fell 29.5 and 66.4 percent respectively. Hong-Kong listed automobile stocks saw losses today, with BYD tumbled 7.24 percent, XPeng fell 4.1 percent, Geely Automobile and Li Auto went down 6.68 percent and 7.16 percent respectively.

Media reported Monday that the smartphone giant Xiaomi will set up its electric vehicle headquarter and first factory in Beijing. Shares of Xiaomi closed 2.36 percent lower today, at HK$24.85.

China's central bank Monday injected 600 billion yuan of one-year medium-term lending facility (MLF) loans to financial institutions to maintain liquidity, with the interest rate steady at 2.95 percent for fourth month.
