易中天为武汉大学“捐诗”三首

“秀才人情纸半张，我来为母校献诗！”11月29日，武汉大学第九届校友珞珈论坛上，武大杰出校友易中天以《中华文明的特质与精髓》为题作分享，他表示，中华文明的特质是“礼”，精髓也是“礼”。大会上，易中天更向母校送出了贺礼——献诗三首。其中，他最新创作的一首96字四言诗《武汉大学颂》换来校友100万元捐赠。

“A gift costs a scholar no more than a half sheet of paper. I’m here today to dedicate my poems to my alma mater!” On November 29th, Yi Zhongtian, a distinguished alumni of Wuhan University, delivered a speech during the 9th Luojia Alumni Forum of Wuhan University which was themed “The Characteristic and Essence of Chinese Civilization”. Yi stated “propriety” is both the hallmark and core of Chinese civilization. During his speech, Yi dedicated three poems as gifts to Wuhan University, among which his most recent creation -- Ode to Wuhan University, a concise four-character poem composed of 96 words -- garnered donations worth a million Yuan from alumni.

滴水之恩当涌泉相报。1978年，易中天来到武汉大学攻读研究生。“我这一生都受到母校的教育和关怀，这样一份恩情是要报答的。”易中天用文人独特的浪漫的形式，为母校“捐诗”。

As the Chinese proverb goes, “The favor of a drip of water must be repaid by a gushing spring” which means kindness must be repaid abundantly. Yi Zhongtian was accepted to Wuhan University for his master’s degree in 1978. “I have received life-long education and care from my alma mater, and such kindness has to be repaid.” With the unique and romantic style of a literati, Yi expressed his gratitude by “donating poems” to his alma mater.

第一首诗是1993年，武汉大学百年校庆时，易中天为母校所创作的诗《满庭芳》。2023年，武汉大学130周年校庆，易中天又创作了两首七律献给母校，现场他一一为大家朗诵。其中一首写道“秋色招摇春色懒，先生殷切后生狂”，他解释，自己在武汉大学求学时，母校非常自由、宽容，而且老先生们对学生比对儿子还好，非常包容年轻人。易中天将这两首七律合并，书写为一幅字，并将原件送给了阮丽萍校友，感谢他捐赠善款50万元。

The first poem, A Fragrant Courtyard, was written in 1993 during Wuhan University’s 100th Anniversary. Now, 30 years later, Yi Zhongtian has composed two more seven-character quatrains for his alma mater for her 130th anniversary. He then went on to recite each poem live at the commemoration. One of the poems reads, “Flaunting autumn hues, and fading spring colors; enthusiastic teachers, and spirited youth.” He explained that during his years at Wuhan University, he was afforded freedom and shown compassion, their professors treating students even better than their own children. Yi combined the two seven-character quatrains into a single piece and wrote them down, presenting the original copy to his fellow alumnus Ruan Liping as gratitude for his 500,000 yuan donation.

当天，易中天还诵读了他最新创作的一首四言诗《武汉大学颂》。易中天将这首诗的原件送给了曾文涛学长，感谢其为胡国瑞奖学金捐资100万元。

On that day, Yi Zhongtian recited his latest creation, Ode to Wuhan University. He gifted the original copy to a senior alumnus, Zeng Wentao, expressing his gratitude for the 1 million yuan of donation to the Hu Guorui Scholarship.

“我们中华民族有着优良的文化传统，其中一条就是感恩，而且特别感母亲的恩，母校是哺育我们成长的地方，母校的恩情是我们永远永远都不会忘记的。”易中天动情地说。

“We Chinese people boost fine cultural traditions including a sense of gratitude, especially that pertaining to motherly figures. Wuhan University laid the foundation for our subsequent growth, so we will never, ever forget such a favor”, Yi Zhongtian said passionately.
