他总是谈笑风生，信手拈来地叙说趣闻逸事，令宾主尽欢。据张大千年谱记载：1950年9月底，张大千（五十三岁）拟去日本小住，约11月由日返台湾。《青城天下幽》就是在此时完成的。从题跋中可以看出张大千此时的兴致和状态极其的好，所以画的也很快，一时间竟画成了五幅。此画便是其中一幅，用笔轻松爽快。
